OUR MISSION
The revitalization of the center of Plainville began in 2015 with the construction of An Unlikely Story Bookstore and Cafe. In our next phase of development, our mission is to build on our commitment to improving a sense of community by creating vibrant spaces that encourage people to come together.
OVERVIEW: PROPOSED PHASE ONE IMPROVEMENTS
Plainville Square is made up of the four corners at the intersection of Bacon Street (Route 106) and South Street (Route 1A). Proposed Phase One improvements feature development of two of the corners.
NORTHWEST CORNER
The northwest corner of Plainville Square will feature an anchor restaurant, an adjoining function space, a flexible retail space, and an adaptable common green space.
Potential applications of the green space include a farmer's market, seasonal festivals, and local vendor fairs.
The common will feature a bandstand for author events and outdoor performances. Food trucks will provide a variety of offerings.
The northwest corner will feature an anchor restaurant with patio seating and outdoor streetside dining.
Curbside parking and landscaping will provide a buffer between patrons and traffic.
A welcoming, flexible retail space will adjoin the anchor restaurant.
A muliti-purpose function hall features outdoor seating.
SOUTHEAST CORNER
The southeast corner of Plainville Square will feature a landscaped parking lot as well as a three-season semi-permanent space for food and beverage.
Food trucks can be brought in for special occasions to enhance the variety of options.
A raised deck and outdoor games will make the space inviting for patrons.
Converted shipping containers will serve as food stalls.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
After Phase One is complete, our plan is to continue development of Plainville Square by replacing the semi-permanent food and beverage area in the southeast corner with attractive, permanent buildings.
We look forward to working with the community to bring the center of town to life in a way that will serve this generation of Plainville residents and generations to come.
